Privacy & cookies
An email address, an analytics cookie you can switch off, and whatever else you choose to type. The long version follows, because the long version is the one that counts.
The short version. We collect your email address if you give it to us (signing the pledge, or asking for the Monday note). A first name and a mobile number are offered alongside it and both are optional; the number is only used for Mobile Free Mondays texts: reminders and occasional updates. We use analytics to see how the site is used, and you can switch it off at any time. We do not sell, rent, or trade anything about you, and there is an unsubscribe link in every email.
Who we are
The Dead Good Club CIC, which runs Mobile Free Mondays, is the data controller for this site.
c/o Denot, 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom.
Questions, or any request below: hello@mobilefreemondays.com.
What we collect, and why
The pledge
When you sign the pledge we store your email address and (if you filled it in) your name. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by writing to us. We keep these details until you ask us to delete them.
There are separate ticks on that form and they do different things. The first signs the pledge, and is the only one you have to give. The second asks us to send you the Monday note, and is the basis on which we mail you at all: without it you get no email from us, not even a confirmation. The third, ‘Pledge privately’, keeps your name off the wall. None of them is pre-ticked, and giving one has never implied another.
When you sign the pledge, the name you gave for the wall appears on a page anybody can read, and search engines may index it. Nothing else goes with it: not your email address, not your town, not the date. If you tick ‘Pledge privately’, your signature appears there as ‘Anonymous’ instead, and your name is not shown. You can ask us to take your name down at any time and we will, without asking why.
A mobile number is optional everywhere it is asked for, and it has one use: Mobile Free Mondays texts, which are reminders before Monday and occasional updates. Giving us the number in answer to a field that says so is the consent for that, and it covers nothing further. We do not send texts about anything else, we do not pass numbers to anyone, and the link at the foot of every text (mobilefreemondays.com/stop) or an email to us takes you off. Leave the field blank and we have no number for you at all, which changes nothing else about your signature.
There is nothing else. No account, no app, and no record anywhere of whether you actually kept a Monday: this site has no way of knowing that and does not want one. The public list says who said they would, never who managed it.
Analytics
We use PostHog to see how the site is used, so we can make it better. It records the pages you visit, how long you stay and how far you read, what you click, and rough device and browser details. It can also record how a visit went, as a replay of the page, with anything you type into a form hidden and your pledge badge left out. Now and then it may ask you a short question on the page, which you can ignore. All of it sits against a random identifier, never your name or email address, and we take names and email addresses out of page addresses before anything is sent. It goes through our own server first, which shortens your IP address, so PostHog never sees your full address, only enough to tell roughly where in the world a visit came from. UK law lets a site set an analytics cookie like this one without asking first, as long as it is used only to improve the site and saying no is easy (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025). For the rest, the lawful basis is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the site. Say no in the cookie notice, or under Cookie settings at the foot of any page, and it stops straight away: nothing more is sent, PostHog’s cookie and identifier are deleted, and it does not load on later visits.
The contact form
The contact form sends what you write to our mailbox by email, through Brevo. That means your name, your email address, and anything you type into the form. Your address is used to reply to you and is not added to the mailing list. The form does not write your details to our server logs. Please keep your own copy if you need a record of what you sent.
Server logs
Our host keeps ordinary request logs (IP address, page requested, time, browser) for a short period, to keep the site up and to deal with abuse. The lawful basis is our legitimate interests in running a secure site.
Cookies and similar storage
Here is everything this site keeps in your browser:
| What | Purpose | Consent? |
|---|---|---|
dgc-cookie-consent | Remembers your answer to this very question, so we stop asking. | Not needed |
ph_*, __ph_opt_in_out_* (PostHog) | Analytics: a random identifier, so we can see how the site is used across pages and a visit counts once. If you say no, the identifier is deleted and a note of your answer is kept, so it stays off. | Not needed, and you can say no |
mfm.monday-plan | Your Monday plan on the How to do it page, kept in your own browser so it is there next time. Never sent to us. Untick “Keep it on this device” and it is deleted. | Only if you tick it |
mfm.pledge.prefill | Carries the name and email you typed into the newsletter box to the pledge form, if you choose “Yes, I’ll pledge”. Read once and deleted; never in the address bar. | Not needed |
The first is stored by your own browser to honour something you asked for. The second is analytics, which UK law lets us set without asking first, as long as we tell you and saying no is easy. Changed your mind? reopens the question. Saying no stops analytics straight away and deletes PostHog’s cookie.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of companies to run the campaign. They process data on our instructions only:
- Brevo (France): stores the mailing list, sends the Monday email, and delivers messages sent through the contact form.
- PostHog (EU region): analytics, which you can switch off.
- Vercel (United States): hosts the site and keeps the server logs.
- Notion (United States): stores the site’s own words. No reader data is kept there.
Donations are taken by Zeffy, not by this site. Press Donate and Zeffy’s form opens over the page; nothing loads from Zeffy before that, and what you type into the form goes to Zeffy, under its own privacy policy, rather than to us.
We never sell, rent, or trade your details.
Sending data abroad
Your mailing-list entry and any analytics stay in Europe. Hosting is provided by a United States company, so request logs may be handled outside the UK; those transfers rely on the UK’s approved safeguards for international transfers.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to what we do with it, or to have it sent elsewhere. Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time, and that does not affect anything done beforehand. Write to us and we will answer within one month.
If you think we have got it wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you told us first.
Children
This site is written for adults and we do not knowingly collect details from anyone under 13. Schools taking part do not send us anything about their students, and should not. If you think we have collected a child’s details, tell us and we will delete them.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
